I have to start this month’s note by saying THANK YOU to everyone who attended our Summer Solstice Wine Tasting Celebration on June 23rd! We had a great turnout, enjoyed delicious wines, were entertained by the dulcet tones of the Third Coast Trombone Retreat, and had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and making new ones! A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, and especially to our fundraising committee for putting it all together. I am happy to say that all the planning and hard work paid off and we were able to raise over $7,500! Check out the article below to learn even more about the impact of this fundraiser and take a look at some fun photos of the event. |

Although Summer Solstice is behind us, we have a lot to look forward to in July! The free public reception for Op. 1 No. 3 – Color of Music is tonight, Friday, July 7, from 5:00-7:00pm. Juror Katherine Bourdon will be in attendance, and we will be announcing the winner of the Concerto Award at 5:30pm. As always, we’ll have a tasty selection of snacks and drinks to enjoy. Speaking of music, we have an eclectic lineup of musicians scheduled for the Free Summer Concert Series this month, including crowd favorite Magic Bus on Tuesday, July 18. If you’re planning to join us that night, please head out early to snag a parking spot, or make plans to walk, boat, bike, or carpool. We’ll also be helping with the community-wide event - Walk the Beat on Saturday, July 22. Stop by the ACWL-Nuveen ahead of time to purchase raffle tickets for the $5,000 raffle or come see me that day in the Colby Street Pocket Park. Half of the proceeds from any raffle tickets we sell come back to the ACWL-Nuveen, so please consider supporting us and Walk the Beat with your purchase! Our Summer Art Camps filled up quickly this year, but we have added a few more. There’s still space available in In the Garden (ages 4-7) with Chelsea Kirksey, Paper Marbling & Collage (ages 8-12) with Lori Coleman, and Bird Houses (ages 6-12) with Lillie Sheridan. Our adult classes are also filling up, but most of them have at least a few spots left. We’re really looking forward to Art on the Farm on Friday, July 21 - a collaboration with Lundell Farms and Rusty Morningstar of Bone Ends. If you’re interested in attending, I would encourage you to sign up now! Space is limited and registration is required by Tuesday, July 18. Looking ahead to August, we currently have an open Call for Artists for this year’s Expressions – en plein air Exhibition. Learn more in the article below or on our website. We’re also excited to be welcoming this year’s Emerging Artist of Color Residents in August. Thanks to support from an anonymous donor and the Consumers Energy Foundation DEI Pilot Project, we were able to expand the program this summer to welcome TWO young artists, recent graduates from Muskegon High School, Lorena Flores and Bryce Thompson! We can’t wait to welcome them into our space and see what they create! I look forward to seeing you this summer at one or more of our many events! Erin Peyer, ACWL-Nuveen Director |
