In last month's newsletter, Director Erin Peyer mentioned in her note that she was looking forward to October because that's when she was due with her second baby. Well, October arrived and with it came a new addition to Erin's family! Congratulations to Erin, R.J, and August on the arrival of Helena Mae! We can't wait to meet her in-person. We certainly miss having Erin here but she did a great job preparing ACWL-Nuveen to run smoothly until her return. |

November is always a full month as the holidays approach and people prepare for the end of the year. We're wrapping up the Wish You Were Here: Global Urban Sketchers Exhibit on November 2. This show features 275 postcard-sized sketches by 115 artists from 40 Urban Sketcher chapters and 13 countries. All of these pieces can be seen--and many of them can be purchased--via our online store. In conjunction with the exhibit, we've offered exciting, well-attended classes and events, including the Urban Sketchers day event that featured a class on practical perspective taught by Brian Wright and an Urban Sketcher walk led by MJ Ernst. Learn more about that event here. As that show wraps up, we'll launch the annual Fall into the Arts exhibit which opens on Friday, November 8 with an opening reception from 1PM to 3PM on Saturday, November 9. This show features work from local school art programs, all around the theme of 'Discovering Space'. This exhibition also serves as a fundraiser for the art programs of the participating schools; ACWL-Nuveen will collect funds for these programs during the exhibit and distribute them afterwards. You can also give on our website to any of the schools' art programs. The end of year giving is ramping up for all non-profits and the arts council is no exception. The wreath fundraiser has begun and handcrafted wreaths from Montague Tree Farms are now for sale! Wreaths are made from Douglas Fir boughs and are fantastic quality. We hope you'll consider supporting our mission of inspiring the White Lake community through accessible and engaging opportunities in the arts by purchasing one of these wonderful wreaths. Read more about the fundraiser here. Buying wreaths means the holidays are close and people are starting to think about what gifts to buy their loved ones. If you're looking for something totally unique and handmade, stop by the Made in Michigan Market which is part of the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Holiday Walk. This event takes place on Friday, November 22, 2:00 - 8:00pm and will feature 10 local artisans and their fantastic, original work. Speaking of gifts, ACWL-Nuveen recently received a lovely one from Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). We were awarded $13,202 in state funds and $4,298 from the NEA. That's a wonderful win for our organization and we couldn't be more grateful to receive it. More on that can be read here. Thanks for all you do to support the ACWL-Nuveen and art in our community! The ACWL-Nuveen Staff |
