"Homage to Kandinsky" by Kathy Rogers
Artist Kathy Rogers has this to say about the piece: "Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky, 1866-1944, was a Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in western art. He wrote, “Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul”. For Kandinsky music and color were tied together and each note had its own hue. This musical chair was inspired by his painting, “Succession”, painted in 1935.
