The ACWL-Nuveen is excited to announce a new creative partnership and a unique opportunity for artists who love to paint “en plein air”. As part of our annual plein air focus in July, we are co-hosting, along with Matt Varnum, Curator for the White River Light Station (WRLS) and the Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association (SPLKA) https://splka.org/ a plein air painting competition on July 22nd at the WRLS from 9:00am until noon. Fifteen artists with plein air painting experience will be selected to paint or draw on-site and exhibit their fresh artwork in the display galleries of the WRLS from July 23 – August 27. Artists who participate in this inaugural painting competition will have a chance to win an overnight stay at the Big Sable Point Lighthouse in Ludington! While the artists’ paintings/drawings are on display at the WRLS, tourists, residents and social media followers will be able to vote for their favorite piece. The artwork with the most votes will win an overnight stay for the artist and a guest at the Big Sable Point Lighthouse, the second highest vote-getter will receive two adult non-expiring passes for all four SPLKA lighthouses and the third-place winner will receive assorted plein air art supplies.
Sponsored by CatchMark Technologies, this opportunity is open to all artists 18 years and older creating in any type of painting and drawing media. The main requirement is that the applicant can demonstrate they have some experience painting/drawing outdoors.
