Peter 'the Potter' Johnson: Art of Apprenticeship

ACWL-Nuveen is excited to kick off our first guest exhibit of the year by showcasing the
artistic talent of Peter Johnson and ten of his former ceramic apprentices. Peter, fondly
known as ‘Peter the Potter’ is an extraordinary ceramicist who has dedicated his artistic
career to not only making pots and sculpture but also nurturing generations of ceramic
talent at his eclectic studio – Terrestrial Forming Pottery Studio - off of Michillinda Road in Whitehall, Michigan.

The exhibit will be open to the public May 1 and run through June 7. We will be hosting
a closing celebration reception on Saturday, June 7 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm when the
public will have an opportunity to hear Peter talk about his work, his dedication to the
apprenticeship system and how that has informed and enriched his life and the lives of
his apprentices. The apprentice’s artwork featured in the show include: Reed Minty,
John Dix, Chandra Stubbs, Jennifer Daugherty, Chikako Kitaoka Dix, Chester
Winowiecki, Rachel Drelles, Cody Breese Thomas, Autumn Aslakson and Kim Funk.
