About the event

This workshop will focus on how to enhance your story by creating a believable perspective for urban sketching.  Participants will learn terminology and practical, useful tips for “on location” methods to create one point and two point perspective, as well as a compelling composition techniques.  This will be excellent for beginners and those frustrated with inaccurate depictions of their subjects in their drawings.  Urban Sketching is about capturing the scene in a particular moment while you are there - it’s not done in studio- so we’ll practice how to simplify the process so you can spend more time on developing your narrative and less time worrying that the view is accurate.

You are welcome to sit and watch, or bring your own sketchbook and follow along!

Class minimum: 6

Class maximum: 30

Please stick around after the class for a sketch walk starting at 1:00pm. Make plans to grab lunch at a local eatery and then head back to the ACWL-Nuveen to head out for the walk!

About the Instructor:

Brian Wright has been a member of USk Chicago for eight years and head of the administrative team for the chapter.  He is a licensed architect in four states, specializing in municipal and recreation design, and sketches consistently when travelling across the country.  He graduated with a Bachelor and Masters degree in Architecture both from University of Illinois at Chicago.  While in college, he led an architectural travel group that visited the contiguous forty-eight states, sketching as they visited famous and historic buildings and places.

As an architect, Brian's sketches typically feature buildings.  He enjoys well-crafted and organized perspectives, so that the freedom of on-site sketching can tell a great story within an accurate view.  He regularly contributes to the Urban Sketchers Chicago facebook and Instagram pages, as well as the many Urban Sketchers chapters he visits while traveling.

His sketches can be found on Instagram @bwrightarch.

This class is being offered in conjunction with the Wish You Were Here: Urban Sketchers Global Exhibition and is supported by Eastbrook Homes.
