Excellent Lineup of Talent for 7th Season of the
White Lake Chamber Music Festival
Performances by the legendary Avalon String Quartet will be among the many highlights of this year’s White Lake Chamber Music Festival to be held August 4-14, 2016. Now in its seventh year, the Arts Council of White Lake’s festival will again comprise a wide variety of exceptional performances and events held throughout the White Lake area of Montague and Whitehall. Most events are free.
From August 4 through 14, our area will host exceptional local, national, and international artists. Highlights include:
- The Chicago based Avalon String Quartet performing 3 sensational concerts on August 6, 10, and 13.
- The Thoreau Piano Trio presenting an exciting pre-festival concert at the Block in Muskegon on Tuesday, August 2 and a great concert on Sunday, August 7 at Ferry Memorial Church, 8637 Old Channel Trail in Montague.
The Youth Day events on Tuesday, August 9, include a concert by cellist and educator, Erin Wang, geared to young people, and an instrument petting zoo at the White Lake Community Library at 11am. The Youth Day Serendipity Recital at 4:30pm will feature past winners of our Young Artists Solo Competition which attracts college age musicians statewide. Ending the Youth Day will be a unique Festival Children's Recital at 5:30pm featuring young musicians performing at what is usually a packed house of parents, grandparents, and community members at the Book Nook and Java Shop.
A "Music with Friends" concert will be held on Friday, August 5 at the beautiful home of John & Mary Loeks. Wine, cheese, and desserts will be served between musical sets. Performing will be classical guitarist Jeremy Verwys. Tickets are $40.
Returning to the Festival this year will be a concert presented by the renowned organist, conductor, and Muskegon native, Thomas Wikman. He will be joined by trumpeter, Pamela Smitter. This organ and trumpet concert will be held at the beautiful St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Muskegon, 1006 Third St. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are only $15 for this unique opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest organists.
Thomas Wikman returns on Friday, August 12, as harpsichordist in a free Baroque chamber concert featuring the Avalon violinist Blaise Magniere, Pablo Mahave-Veglia, plus the Festival Chamber Orchestra. Bach and other Baroque composers will be showcased in this program at the United Methodist Church of Montague at 7:30 p.m.
Free Serendipity Recitals are among the many highlights of the week. Great talent will be featured daily at 4:30 at the Book Nook and Java Shop. Featured will be winners of the Young Artists Solo Competition, Erin Wang - cellist and Sondra Cross - clarinetist, Rachael Gates- soprano, Pamela Smitter – trumpet, member of the Thoreau Trio, Guiseppe Carrano Trio – bassoon, voice, piano, and Blaise Magniere - violin.
