    West Michigan Junior Strings

Announces Openings for Cello and Violin

West Michigan Junior Strings registration for winter classes is now open and will run through January 11, 2017.

Classes are open to students from 4 years old through high school who wish to study violin or cello. Classes start the week of January 9. Locations available are the White Lake area, Hart Middle School, and the Ludington Arts Center.

Since 2009, the West Michigan Junior Strings has offered violin and cello instruction to students ages 4 to 18, using a creative blend of the Suzuki Method and traditional string pedagogy. It has grown into a program serving students in over three counties with highly-skilled and committed faculty who are dedicated to fostering Suzuki’s vision that “every child can.” Dr. Suzuki's philosophy embraces the idea that all children are born with musical ability which can be nurtured at an early age through their environment, listening, imitation, and by working closely with a parent at home.

Focusing on creating a musically-nurturing environment, the Junior Strings reaches out to communities that have no existing string programs in the public schools. Students and parents meet with their instructor once a week for private lessons and monthly group classes, showcasing all progress at the end of the semester with a combined recital.

The West Michigan Junior Strings is a program of the Arts Council of White Lake. For more information or to register, please contact Director Sondra Cross at 231-329-3056. All registration materials are available online at www.artswhitelake.org.

The West Michigan Junior Strings, a program of the Arts Council of White Lake, will present their Spring Recital on Tuesday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at Hart Middle School. Students of all ages, from Muskegon to Mason County, will come together in Hart to share their progress and love for music.

Since 2009, the West Michigan Junior Strings has offered violin and cello instruction to students ages 3 to 18, using a creative blend of the Suzuki Method and traditional string pedagogy.

Students and parents meet with their instructor once a week, rotating between private/semi-private lessons and group classes, showcasing all progress at the end of the semester with a combined recital.

The public is invited to come and support the developing talent in young people.

Scholarship funds have been available because of generous donations from individuals and a grant from the Little Points Sable Fund of the Community Foundation for Oceana County, making string education more accessible and affordable.
